Bowhunters
Alert

Hello, my name is Don Higgins and I reside in rural Shelby County with my wife Robin and daughters Andrea and Aliesha. I am 38 years old and for the past 20 years I have been employed as a printer for a large commercial magazine printer in Mattoon, Illinois. Those who know me associate me with deer and deer hunting more than my profession however. I have avidly pursued fish and game since I was a young child. The outdoors is a passion that I have never outgrown. As a kid I hunted, fished or trapped for about every species that existed in my local stomping grounds. Later as a young adult I turned my focus to whitetails and eventually gave up all other outdoor pursuits in favor of hunting trophy whitetail bucks with my bow. Nothing else could compare to walking up on a trophy buck that I had just arrowed and I have done so with both modern and traditional equipment . Besides Illinois I have hunted 7 other states and Canada, all bow hunts except one. I have pursued antelope, mule deer, elk, javelina, black bear and whitetails in 4 states. When I am not scheming the downfall of my next whitetail buck I am usually either writing about my hunting or working with my small herd of captive whitetails. I have been raising whitetails for the past 4 years and my respect and passion for this animal grows daily. As a published author my articles have appeared in North American Whitetail, Bow hunter, Petersens Bow hunting, Illinois Game & Fish and a few others. I became involved with IBS in an attempt to unite the bow hunters of Illinois with a common voice. I was continually hearing hunters complain about various deer hunting issues and DNR policies yet these hunters were only preaching to the choir so to speak. My goal is for IBS to unite ALL Illinois bow hunters whether they are trophy hunters or meat hunters and use traditional equipment or modern gear. If we get all Illinois bow hunters from the far southern tip of the state all the way up to the northern boundary united as one, we can accomplish a lot of positive things to improve and preserve Illinois bow hunting for ourselves, our kids and generations yet to come.
